At the level of experimental methods, tissue samples from the ovaries and testes of children who will be exposed to radiation or chemotherapy for treatment are taken and frozen with cryoprotectants, with the aim of later returning them to the original gonads after recovery and then attempting reproduction. So far, there is still not enough data to transition the method from experimental to routine, but progress is being made every day.
