With aging, women's genetic and metabolic competence of egg cells declines, and as a result, with increasing age, the pregnancy rate decreases while the rate of spontaneous miscarriages increases. In men, more genetic errors occur with age. In the general population, without reproductive issues, the rate of spontaneous miscarriages is between 12-14%. In the population of infertile patients, in pregnancies after IVF, due to the presence of reproductive-related pathologies and slightly older average age of the population, the miscarriage rate is higher, in large studies 25-30%.
In women over 44 years old, the miscarriage rate is 60% in relation to achieved pregnancies.
Genetically caused spontaneous miscarriages cannot be influenced or should not be, as this is nature's way of ensuring the birth of healthy offspring. What should be investigated in cases of recurrent spontaneous miscarriages is the presence of acquired or inherited thrombophilias, as well as the existence of other conditions that may affect the course of pregnancy.
