Hysteroscopy is a modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that allows for a direct examination of the inside of the uterus using a thin optical instrument – the hysteroscope. This method is used for a precise assessment of the condition of the uterine lining, detecting possible irregularities, and, when necessary, simultaneously removing certain changes.
In the field of reproductive medicine, hysteroscopy plays a particularly significant role as it provides detailed insight into factors that may affect conception, embryo implantation, and the course of pregnancy. It is recommended for patients who have recurrent spontaneous abortions, unsuccessful attempts at in vitro fertilization, irregular or heavy bleeding, suspicion of polyps, fibroids, adhesions, uterine septum, or other changes within the uterine cavity.
The advantage of hysteroscopy is that the doctor can clearly see the inside of the uterus during the examination and accurately assess whether there are changes that require treatment. Depending on the findings, the procedure can be purely diagnostic, or minor changes, such as polyps or adhesions, can be removed during the same procedure.
The procedure is most often performed under short-term anesthesia or with appropriate preparation, depending on the type of intervention and the individual condition of the patient. Recovery is usually quick, and the patient typically returns to daily activities on the same day, with the doctor's recommendations.
Hysteroscopy is an important step in precise diagnosis and planning further treatment, especially for patients preparing for assisted reproduction procedures. Timely detection and treatment of changes within the uterus can create better conditions for embryo implantation and a successful treatment outcome.
In our institution, we perform hysteroscopy with an individualized approach, careful assessment of indications, and detailed planning of each step, with the aim of providing the patient with safe, precise, and modern diagnostics.
